The route
Itinerary
Day by day
A working draft: every day can be lengthened, shortened or swapped once we know what matters most to you.
- Day1
Arrival in Marrakech
Land in Marrakech and settle in — a free evening near Jemaa el-Fnaa to ease into the trip before eleven days on the road.

Marrakech - Day2
Marrakech city
A guided day around the Red City — the maze of the medina, the Koutoubia minaret and the souks, finishing as the food stalls light up Jemaa el-Fnaa at dusk.
- Day3
Marrakech → Aït Ben Haddou → Boumalne Dadès
Cross the High Atlas via the Tizi n'Tichka pass, detouring to the hilltop Telouet Kasbah before the earthen ksar of Aït Ben Haddou, then on to Boumalne Dadès for the night.

Aït Ben Haddou - Day4
Boumalne Dadès → Todgha Gorge → Merzouga (Sahara camp)
Drive to Tinghir for a walk through Todgha Gorge, then continue east via Erfoud and Rissani to the desert's edge. As the light turns gold, ride a camel — or take a 4x4 — into the Erg Chebbi dunes for dinner and a night at a Berber camp.

The Sahara - Day5
Merzouga → Ziz Valley → Ifrane → Fes
Watch the sunrise over the dunes, then drive north through Errachidia and the palm-lined Ziz Valley to Midelt and the Middle Atlas cedar forests, pausing in the alpine town of Ifrane before the final descent into Fes.

Fes - Day6
A full day in Fes
A local guide leads you through the medieval medina — the Bou Inania madrasa, the Al-Qarawiyyin mosque and university, a working pottery village and the carved gateways of Nejjarine Square.
- Day7
Fes → Meknes → Volubilis → Chefchaouen
Visit imperial Meknes and its Bab Mansour gate, then the Roman ruins of Volubilis, before climbing into the Rif Mountains to Chefchaouen for the night.

Chefchaouen - Day8
Chefchaouen → Akchour waterfalls → Chefchaouen
A day at a gentler pace: hike out to the Akchour waterfalls and their turquoise pools in the Talassemtane hills, then return to Chefchaouen for a second night among its blue-washed streets.
- Day9
Chefchaouen → Rabat → Casablanca
Head south to the capital, Rabat, for the Hassan Tower, the Kasbah of the Udayas and the Mohammed V Mausoleum, then on to Casablanca to see the vast Hassan II Mosque on the ocean.

Casablanca - Day10
Casablanca → Essaouira
Follow the Atlantic coast south to Essaouira, spending the afternoon in its ramparts, harbour and medina before a night by the sea.

Essaouira - Day11
Essaouira → Marrakech
A last morning in Essaouira, then the drive back inland to Marrakech for your departure, closing the loop after a circuit of the whole country.

Questions about this journey
Can you customize an itinerary, or do we have to book one exactly as listed?
Every trip on this site is a starting point. Tell us your dates, pace and interests on WhatsApp or through the form below, and we'll adjust the route, swap in extra nights, or build something from scratch around what you actually want to see.
What's included in the price of a private Morocco tour?
Standard inclusions are a private air-conditioned vehicle with fuel and tolls, an English-speaking driver-guide for the whole trip, accommodation in riads, kasbahs and a desert camp, the Erg Chebbi camel trek, daily breakfast, local guides in the imperial cities, and all local taxes. International flights, most lunches and dinners, entrance fees, tips and travel insurance are not included.
When's the best time of year for a Sahara desert tour?
Spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November) give the most comfortable temperatures for both the High Atlas passes and the dunes. Summer is workable but hot in the desert by midday; winter nights in the Sahara and the mountains can be cold, so pack layers if travelling between November and February.
Which cities can a tour start and end in?
Most itineraries start or end in Marrakech, Fes, Casablanca or Tangier — wherever your flight lands. Filter the tours by city to see what's available, or ask us to build a route between two different cities if you don't see the combination you need.
